$1,000,000 Settlement for Failure to Order Adequate Testing and Diagnose Coronary Artery Disease

Date: Fall 2015
Attorney: Carol Forte
Settlement: $1 Million
Practice Areas: Medical Malpractice, Failure to Diagnose Coronary Artery Disease, Failure to Order Adequate Testing, Wrongful Death

Carol Forte represented the estate and family of a man who complained of chest discomfort. He saw a cardiologist and underwent a cardiac stress test, the result was interpreted as normal and he was diagnosed with GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease). He continued to complain of “heartburn” for several months after having been seen by his cardiologist. He died suddenly and an autopsy confirmed widespread coronary artery disease.

Ms. Forte asserted that a cardiac catheterization test should have been recommended, not just a stress test; and that had it been done, the coronary artery disease would have been discovered and treated. Ms. Forte settled this claim for one million dollars.
