$997,500 Settlement for Surgical Error Resulting in Permanent Colostomy

Carol represented a woman whose surgeon was negligent in not removing an early cancerous tumor in her colon; rather, he operated in an area above where the tumor was. Subsequent follow-up testing showed that the tumor was still present, and another surgeon had to do further surgery to remove the tumor. However, because of scar tissue from the first operation, the colon could not be reattached and she has a permanent colostomy. The case settled for $997,500.
