$910,000 Settlement for Failure to Diagnose and Treat Sepsis

Blume Goldfaden partner David Fried represented the family and estate of a deceased man in his late forties. The decedent went to the emergency room at a hospital with groin pain, where it was assumed that he had a groin injury (muscle pull). He also presented at that time with fever and an elevated white count (indicative of infection). The emergency room doctor ordered a CT Scan, which showed an abnormality in the psoas muscle, and the man was discharged without further follow-up recommendations or medication. Because his treating physician failed to recognize and treat his infection, two days later, he returned to the emergency room with severe infection, causing sepsis, and ultimately his death a few hours later. The Decedent left a wife and 2 children.
