$900,000 Settlement for Woman’s Death Following D&C

A young woman had to have a D&C following a miscarriage. The gynecologist perforated the uterus and did not recognize that that had occurred. Several days later, the woman developed perititonitis and had to be returned to the operating room. The anesthesiologist at the Newark hospital where the surgery was performed did not take the appropriate precautions to prevent her from vomiting while receiving anesthesia. The woman did vomit, did inhale it into her lungs and although the operation to repair the uterine perforation was successful, she developed respiratory distress syndrome and died, leaving 3 young children. Blume Donnelly partner, Carol Forte, obtained a $900,000 recovery.
