$990,000 Settlement for Partial Loss of Vision in One Eye

A 25-year-old Hudson County resident obtained a settlement of almost $1 million for the partial loss of sight in his left eye. The man, who was inappropriately prescribed topical steroid eye drops for over five years by his primary medical doctor to treat blepharitis, suffered from steroid-induced glaucoma to the left eye, which permanently damaged his optic nerve. Following a trabeculectomy to reduce the eye pressure, the client was nonetheless left with permanent damage to his visual field, resulting in “tunnel vision” of the left eye. Michael Zerres, a principal of the firm, prosecuted the case on behalf of the patient.
