$1 Million Settlement for Brain Hemorrhage Misdiagnosed

While visiting her son in 1991, a 58-year-old Nigerian woman had a severe headache and lost consciousness. An ER doctor misdiagnosed her condition and failed to performed a CT scan and/or lumbar puncture. When her symptoms persisted, she was later admitted to the Helene Fuld Medical Center, where a specialist in charge also failed to properly diagnose her injury, despite test results that indicated a Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. Several days later, she was diagnosed with Subarachnoid Hemorrhage. If her condition was diagnosed earlier in the course of treatment, her second bleed could have been prevented by surgery. Now 65 years old, she suffers from poor memory and diminished mental capacity. Blume Donnelly principal Michael Zerres obtained the $1 million settlement.
