$285,000 Jury Award for Doctors Negligent in ERCP Case

A Somerset County jury awarded a woman $285,000 in a case against two gastroenterologists for their negligence in treating the patient before and after laparoscopic surgery. Blume Donnelly attorney Carol Forte represented the 50-year-old woman, who developed an infection and other complications following laparoscopic removal of gallstones.

The plaintiff claimed that the physicians were negligent in not giving her antibiotics before the procedure, and in failing to determine the source of her fever and abnormal laboratory results before discharging her, thus causing her to develop a massive pancreatic abscess.
