$550,000 Settlement for Loss of a Fetus During Surgery

Blume Donnelly partner Michael B. Zerres obtained a settlement on behalf of a young couple who lost their infant daughter during surgery that occurred in pregnancy. The surgery, which required removal of a benign adrenal mass attached to a kidney, also expanded to removal of one of the kidneys. In an attempt to transect the renal artery, the urologic surgeon mistakenly transected the aorta, a much larger artery, causing loss of blood flow to the baby, and, as a result, her untimely death.
