A South Brunswick, New Jersey chemical accident on Earth Day weekend sent a young worker to the hospital with significant burn injuries, according to an article in the South Brunswick Patch.

The referenced accident occurred on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the IFF facility located on Docks Corner Road in South Brunswick, New Jersey. This New Jersey chemical accident involved a chemical mixture which exploded. A 29-year-old worker from Toms River, New Jersey was working on the mixture at the time of the explosion, which caused first and second degree burns over 25 percent of his body. He was taken to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston by New Jersey State Police helicopter. This incident is under investigation by OSHA and South Brunswick police.

Working with chemicals can be very hazardous. Oftentimes chemical accidents are not the fault of the worker but of third party negligence. For example, depending on the circumstances of this chemical accident, the explosion may have been caused by a reaction with a defective or contaminated container, or perhaps a contractor or sub contractor improperly handled the chemical mixture before it was given to the worker. In addition, workers must be supplied with proper safety gear and clothing to protect them from inadvertent chemical exposure.
