DuPont Plant in New Jersey Cited In Scathing OSHA Report

New Jersey DuPont Plant Cited

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has reportedly placed DuPont Co., a centuries old chemical manufacturer, in their five-year “Severe Violator Enforcement Program”., reported that the Wilmington, Delaware based Company was cited and placed within the referenced program due to what OSHA described as a “demonstrated indifference towards creating a safe and healthy workplace by committing willful or repeated violations, and/or failing to abate known hazards.”

Examples of such violations include a 2014 incident which occurred at an industrial site located in Deepwater, NJ.  At that time, investigators discovered 11 different violations after a toxic chemical was released into an area where employees could be and at risk for severe injury.  Incidents in Louisiana and Texas, where four employees died due to toxic exposure, also contributed to OSHA’s new “ranking” for the company, prompting DuPont’s placement in the enforcement program.

In it’s defense, DuPont responded by stating, “We believe we have identified and are addressing most if not all of OSHA’s significant findings,” The chemical maker also went on to express their disappointment in the decision, and plans to further research OSHA’s findings;  with the goal of making safety it’s number one priority.  However, Assistant Director of OSHA, Dr. David Michaels, reiterated the agency’s position regarding the company’s history of many infractions, and the justification in classifying DuPont as a “Severe Violator”.

Work place accidents, including those which involve exposure to toxic substances, can be extremely dangerous, cause significant injuries and could be deadly.  If you or a family member has been involved in an on-the-job accident, you may be entitled to benefits through worker’s compensation. Depending on the circumstances surrounding your accident you also may be entitled to pursue claims for additional compensation from those who may have acted carelessly and negligently.  For more information about your rights and options, contact the NJ work place injury attorneys at Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari.
