Violation of FMVSS No. 139 Prompts Vogue Tire Recall

By Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari on September 6, 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced the recall of 701 Vogue tires due to a design defect which violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 139, “New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles.”

The recalled tires include Vogue Tyre & Rubber Co. signature tires, sizes 225/50R17, 235/50R18, and 245/45R18 and custom built tires, size 225/50R17. They were manufactured between January 1, 2012 through August 11, 2012. The tires do not include the entire tire identification number (TIN) on the outboard sidewall of the tire, as is required by FMVSS No. 139. Without the TIN, owners may not be able to identify the tires in the event of a recall or safety announcement, increasing the risk that they may continue to operate their vehicles with the potentially defective tires. This may increase the likelihood of an injury auto accident.

Owners of the recalled tires will be notified and dealers will replace the tires at no-cost. The start date of this recall has not yet been determined. For more information, owners may call Vogue at (800) 323-1466 or the NHTSA at (888) 327-4236.
