By Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari on August 15, 2012

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announcement, Michelin North America, Inc. is recalling 799,900 BF Goodrich and Uniroyal tires due to a defect in the tread/belt that may cause separation at the tread/belt edge. If the separation occurs while the vehicle is in motion, it could result in rapid air loss and increase the chances of an injury car accident. This recall includes the following tires:

  • BF Goodrich Commercial T/A A/S, size LT 235/85R16 120 Q LRE
  • BF Goodrich Commercial T/A A/S, size LT 245/75R16 120 Q LRE
  • Uniroyal Laredo HD/H, size LT 235/85R16 120 Q LRE
  • Uniroyal Laredo HD/H, size LT 245/75R16 120 Q LRE

BF Goodrich and Uniroyal will notify owners and dealers and replace the defective tires at no cost. This recall started on approximately August 6, 2012. For further information, owners can call the Tire Consumer Care line at (800) 637-5527. They may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.

The safe proper function of a vehicle’s tires is of the utmost importance for the overall safety of the vehicle and its passengers. If a tire manufacturer uses substandard materials or if there are design or manufacturing defects in the production process, it can jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of the vehicle’s occupants.
