Toro Lawnmowers Recalled for Dangerous Breaking Blades

By Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari on December 12, 2013

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for 34,500 Toro lawnmowers due to a defect that can cause laceration hazards. An additional 1,600 lawnmowers are being recalled in Canada.

Reports indicate that The Toro Co.’s TimeMaster and TurfMaster lawnmowers’ blades may break while being used, posing a serious threat to owners, who may be cut during an incident. While there have been ten reports of the mower blades breaking, there have not been any known injuries so far.

The recall affects the 2013 Toro TimeMaster 30” and 2013 Toro TurfMaster 30”. Specifically Model number 20199 with serial numbers 313000101 through 313020271, model number 20200 with serial numbers 313000101 through 313007366, and model number 22200 with serial numbers 313000101 through 313007146 are included in the recall. These serial numbers can be found on a decal above the left rear tire on the engine base.

“Toro” is printed on the front of these black and red lawnmowers along with either “TimeMaster” or “TurfMaster.” “Toro” is also printed on the sides of these mowers. These products were sold across the United States and Canada from November 2012 through October 2013 for $999 to $1,799.

Toro has recommended that owners immediately stop using these mowers and contact them as soon as possible for a no-cost repair. Toro can be reached at the toll-free number (855) 340-7686 or online at www.toro.com through their Product Recall link.
