Projectile Hazard Potential Forces Jeep Liberty Strollers Recall

Chicago company Kolcraft Enterprises Inc. has recalled 96,000 Jeep Liberty branded strollers in the U.S. along with 510 in Canada, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The product was determined to pose a projectile hazard due to a flaw in the tire’s inner tube that could cause it to potentially rupture, breaking the wheel rim and projecting the pieces through the air. So far, 39 reports of such an occurrence have been made. Injuries occurred in 18 of the incidents, characterized by abrasions, contusions, and/or lacerations. Two involved property damage.

The recalled Jeep Liberty branded strollers, manufactured between June 2010 and September 2011, can be identified by their model numbers: JL031, JL032, JL034, JL035, and JL036. The model number and manufacturing date can be found on a white tag on the seatback pad.

Here is a list of the different color combinations the strollers were sold in:

  • Green seat and canopy
  • Gray seat and canopy with a teal blue stripe
  • Orange seat and canopy with a tan stripe
  • Tan seat and canopy with a yellow stripe
  • Tan seat and canopy with an orange rim

From June 2010 through June 2013, the strollers were sold nationwide at baby specialty stores and large chains including Burlington Coat Factory, Sears, and Toys R Us for between $150 and $180.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product and to contact the company for free wheel replacements.
