1.25 Million Playtex Pacifier Clips Recalled for Infant Choking Hazards

New Jersey Product LiabilityPlaytex Products Inc. has issued a recall for its baby pacifier holder clips, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Reports indicate that approximately 1.25 million holder clips in the U.S. have been recalled, and an additional 150,000 in Canada, due to serious choking hazards.

The plastic clips attach a baby’s pacifier to clothing, diaper bags, strollers, or whatever else might be convenient for parents. However, 99 consumer reports have shown that the clips can crack and parts may break off, posing a choking threat to small children. While no injuries have been reported, the dangers are serious enough to result in the recall.

These clips come in three varieties: green plastic with an image of a monkey on the clip, pink plastic with a flower image, and blue with a tow truck image. All clips have a “Playtex” copyright logo on a part of the clip that slides up and down for adjustment.

The clips were sold at stores including Wal-Mart and various baby and discount stores, as well as online through Amazon. The products were available from July 2010 through October 2013 and cost approximately $3.

If you own a Playtex pacifier clip, it is advised that you immediately take it away from your child and contact Playtex at (888) 220-2075 or through the recall link at www.playtexproducts.com. You will be given instructions on how to return the product and receive a full refund.

Hopefully, the timeliness of this recall will prevent countless injuries, but defects in products are not always recognized in a timely fashion. If you or a loved one has been harmed by a defective product, you have the right to seek compensation for losses from negligent manufacturers, designers, distributors and possibly even retailers.
