According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC), at least 302 reports of breaking glass have lead to Teavana recalling approximately 445,000 units of their Glass Tea Tumblers in the United States, along with an additional 24,850 in Canada.
The tumblers are manufactured with a double wall meant to protect the hands of users from the heat of beverages. Additionally, they have a removable stainless steel tea infuser basket, removable lid, and etchings on the inner wall. The glass may break or shatter when filled with hot liquid. Consumers have suffered lacerations on hands and legs as well as burns (from the contents of the tumblers coming in contact with skin after breakage).
Models that are included in the recall include:
- Akira Travel RED 14oz
- Clouds Travel CPR 14 oz
- Flourish Iced Tea Glasses 12 oz
- Harmony Glass Double Wall 11 oz
- Izmir Travel GRN 14 oz
- Lotus Travel PUR 14 oz
- Rhapsody Glass Double Wall 16 oz
- Six Dragons Double Wall 8, 11, and 16 oz
- Tamira Travel BLU 14 oz
- Imperial Blooming Collection Tea Sets with 2 Harmony 11 oz Tumblers/Symphony 8 oz Tumblers
The tumblers were sold online and at stores from August 2007 through May 2013.
Teavana has advised owners to immediately stop using the tumblers and return them to a Teavana store location. When returned, they will receive a free replacement metallic tea tumbler and a complimentary 2 ounce package of Opus Rouge Rooibos Tea.
Additionally, consumers can also call Teavana and request a pre-paid mailer that will be sent for free to return the tumblers.
