NJ Cancer Patients Get Break from Reality with 22nd Christmas in July

According to the Asbury Park Press, the Jersey Shore sector of the Eastern Division of the American Cancer Society held their annual free event for cancer patients and their families; the 22nd annual Christmas in July at Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey,

The event provides families a day away from their struggles to enjoy and spend time with the people they care about most. Santa Claus made an appearance to give children a $25 gift card or $30 gift which they may have requested in a letter before the event. The purpose of the event is to give children and other family members affected by cancer a day when they could forget about the stress cancer creates and just have fun.

Based on projections by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, approximately 570,000 people will die from cancer and 1.64 million will be diagnosed with cancer in the United States in 2012. Of those diagnosed, it is estimated that 50,000 will be New Jersey residents. New Jersey is one of eight U.S. states with the highest average cancer incidence rate from 2005 to 2009 with 501 cases per 100,000 population, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

A cancer patient’s prognosis is largely dependent upon his or her healthcare professional’s ability to diagnose and treat the disease correctly, effectively and in a timely manner. Unfortunately, many healthcare professionals fail to adhere to accepted standards of care, and either fail to properly or timely diagnose, misdiagnose, and/or fail to timely treat the disease.

If you or a loved one has suffered as the result of a healthcare professional’s failure to comport themselves according to appropriate medical standards of care, you may be entitled to pursue civil litigation surrounding those damages sustained. The knowledgeable cancer misdiagnosis lawyers in New Jersey at Blume Forte can help you determine whether you may have a valid claim. Call us for a no-cost consultation at (973) 635-5400.
