New Jersey Breast Cancer Marches Raise $3.5 Million for Screenings and Research

By Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari on October 31, 2013

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, New Jersey residents gathered together in multiple locations to raise money for researchers and those coping with the disease during the 14th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer march. In an article posted on NJ.com, it was reported that six Making Strides walks occurred throughout New Jersey, which raised a total of $3.5 million.

Participants in the marches wore shirts, wigs, shoes, and many others items in various shades of pink to show solidarity with and support of breast cancer research and awareness. Marches were held in Newark (16,000 people), Point Pleasant Beach (20,000), Ridgefield Park (9,000), Jersey City (6,000), Parsippany (13,000), and Ocean City (uncounted). More marches are scheduled to occur in Pennsauken and Edison.

In Newark, New Jersey alone, more than 200 cancer survivors and their families, friends, and support groups took part in the march. Making Strides holds marches in more than 300 locations across the United States and uses the funds raised to support research and thousands of breast cancer victims every year.

In 2012, 6,960 New Jersey residents were diagnosed with breast cancer. Even with continued advances in diagnosis and treatment, countless people throughout the country die every year from this type of cancer.

In the event that a person is misdiagnosed or not timely diagnosed with cancer, the chances of survival or prognosis for a complete recovery become less. In addition, in the event of a delay in diagnosis, treatment may need to be more invasive and extensive, with further health consequences and economic costs.

If you or a loved one has suffered from a medical professional’s breast cancer misdiagnosis, you may be able to hold them responsible for the resulting losses. At Blume Forte, our legal team has decades of experience representing those who have suffered because of negligent medical care.
