Rowan University Holds 3rd Annual Breast Cancer Walk

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the United States. In 2012, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 226,870 new diagnoses of invasive breast cancer in women; additionally, approximately 39,510 women will die from breast cancer in 2012. As with all cancers, the key to increasing the likelihood of effective treatment and survival is timely and accurate diagnosis and proper effective treatment. In order to improve diagnostic tests, treatment efficacy, and, ultimately, a patient’s prognosis, cancer research must be conducted; requiring significant funding.

There are various organizations and institutions that hold fundraising events to help raise money for cancer research and support services. One such fundraising event, “These Boobs are Made for Walkin’,” is scheduled for April 21, 2012 at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.

The four-mile run/walk is being sponsored by Rowan University and Komen Central and South Jersey Walk for the Cure. According to an article posted on NJ.com, in its first year, the event raised $3,500 and the second raised $3,000. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised by the run/walk will go to the regional affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and the remaining 25 percent will go to the national office. The upcoming event will include T-shirts for participants, snacks, beverages, music, and a jewelry sale to raise money for the cause.

Without accurate and timely diagnosis and proper effective treatment, cancer is fatal. It is the responsibility of healthcare professionals to comply with the standards of care which mandate timely testing, diagnosis and proper treatment. If those standards of care are breeched, it may result in a failed breast cancer diagnosis or a breast cancer misdiagnosis, as well as delayed or improper treatment. If those factors affect a patient’s prognosis, they, and/or their families may be able to pursue a medical negligence claim.

If you or a family member has suffered as the result of shortcomings in the diagnosis or treatment of breast cancer, the knowledgeable New Jersey breast cancer misdiagnosis lawyers at Blume Forte can help you determine whether your claim may have merit.
