Chrysler Recalls 1.2 Million Ram Trucks for Steering Defects

By Blume Forte Fried Zerres & Molinari on November 20, 2013

New Jersey Personal InjuryChrysler Group LLC, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has issued a recall affecting a total of 1.2 million Ram trucks. According to an article published in the The New York Times, the Ram trucks are affected by a defect that can result in a sudden loss of steering capabilities.

The defect of concern involves the left tie rod assembly in the steering system. This tie rod can break, causing drivers to lose control of the vehicle and possibly causing a crash. Vehicles affected by the recall include 2003-2008 Dodge RAM 2500 4×4, 2006-2008 Dodge RAM 1500 Mega Cab 4×4 trucks, and 2007-2008 Dodge RAM 3500 4×2 Cab Chassis.

Chrysler is reporting that only approximately 453,000 of the 1.2 million recalled vehicles will need repair to remedy the defect. However, all of the 1.2 Million vehicles will need to be recalled in order to find all trucks that contain the auto defect.

According to Chrysler, there have been seven reported accidents caused by Ram steering problems that resulted in multiple injuries. Beginning in December 2013, Chrysler dealers will inspect the steering linkage in recalled trucks and install a new left tie rod assembly when it is needed.

Some of the vehicles in this recall were previously affected by the Chrysler tie rod recall Number 11V350. However, they are still affected by this recall.

To learn more about this recall, which is identified by recall campaign number N62, owners can call Chrysler at (800) 247-9753.
