$475,000 Settlement for Failure to Properly Administer Blood Thinners Postoperatively

Carol Forte represented the estate and family of a 69-year-old man who fractured his femur, had a surgical repair, and went to a rehabilitation facility. His leg was in a long cast and he was prohibited from putting full weight on his leg. He spent much of his time in bed. He was placed on blood thinners to prevent clots, for two weeks, and then the orthopedist discontinued the medication. Several days later, the man died suddenly from a blood clot. Carol asserted that the blood thinners ought to have been continued until the man was at least full weight bearing. The matter was resolved after the case had been assigned to trial.
