Avandia Claims
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 23 million people in the United States are afflicted with diabetes. Type II Diabetes is the most common form of the condition, and as such, a variety of medications have been marketed to those affected. However, one such medication generically named rosiglitazone, and sold under the name Avandia by GalaxoSmithKline has been proven to have some very serious side effects. For example, a report in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2007 (revised), noted that Avandia puts users at significant risk of suffering from cardiac related conditions.
It has been suggested that Avandia may significantly increase an individual's likelihood of suffering from heart disease (increasing it by as much as 64%), as well as heart attacks (increasing it by as much as 43%). As reported in The Washington Post: according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Avandia may have contributed to the occurrence of more than 83,000 heart attacks since the medication was introduced onto the market: Washington Post Article 2/21/10, and Senate Report on Avandia 1/2010.
The FDA has mandated that GlaxoSmithKline place a warning on Avandia's packaging as to the cardiovascular risks of the drug. However, many may have suffered the ill effects of this medication due to previous insufficient warnings and a lack of information provided by the drug’s manufacturer.
If you or a loved one has suffered from a cardiac (heart) related event which is thought to be related to taking Avandia, contact the litigation attorneys at Blume Goldfaden for a no cost consultation, at 973-635-5400, or, complete the following form:
