The supervising obstetrician determined that forceps would be necessary to deliver an infant. While instructing a resident in obstetrics how to use the forceps, the infant's facial nerves were damaged. He now suffers right facial paralysis and has undergone three surgical procedures to try to lessen his permanent condition.
