Failure to Order Appropriate
Follow-up after Abnormality Noted on a Mammogram - Settlement
$750,000
Attorney - Carol
Forte
Winter 2006
Carol Forte represented a woman whose mammogram was read as
abnormal. Despite the presence of abnormalities that required
follow-up, the treating physician told the woman that her mammogram
was normal, and he failed to order appropriate follow-up studies
and treatment. This resulted in a failure to timely diagnose
the cancer. The delay in diagnosis allowed for a progression
of the disease process and a worsened prognosis.
