1.6 million dollar settlement for birth injury

Carol Forte recently settled a case involving a mother who gave birth to a child at 36 weeks gestation, which is considered slightly premature since the normal length of pregnancy is approximately 40 weeks. Despite the fact that prematurity is a known risk factor for Group B strep infection in a fetus, neither the mother nor the child was treated with antibiotics. The baby developed a severe respiratory infection and remained in the hospital for several months. He suffered permanent respiratory damage. The case settled for 1.6 million dollars.
