IRONWORKER
PARALYZED IN JOB SITE FALL |
| |
Attorney - John Blume
Fall 1993
A 29-year old ironworker from South Amboy was awarded a $2.4 million settlement
for injuries sustained in a construction site accident.
The man,
working on the construction of a warehouse in South Brunswick,
had attempted to unfasten from a crane a load of steel decking
which was placed on joists that had not been properly bridged
or welded. The entire load of decking and joists fell, taking
the ironworker with it on a 20-foot plunge to the ground.
He suffered spinal injuries resulting in permanent partial paralysis of
his right side, leaving him disabled for most manual work.
Blume Goldfaden attorney John Blume tried and won the liability case in Middlesex
County Superior Court, against a subcontractor, Mulach Steel
Corporation, and the general contractor for the job, M. Alfieri
Company, Inc. The damage trial was successfully settled before
summation.
