Partner, Ronald Goldfaden, settled this medical malpractice claim for a man who underwent surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. During the surgery, the doctors were required to clamp the blood flow to his legs. This clamping increased the risk of the formation of a blood clot in one of the man’s lower extremities. In this case it was argued that the doctors should have known that he was at particularly high risk, because he already had poor circulation in one of his legs preoperatively. Our client did in fact sustain a clot in one leg which resulted in an amputation. Ron worked with an expert who opined that the defendant doctor failed to do necessary preoperative testing which would have prevented the problem, or at least saved the plaintiff’s leg once the obstruction occurred. The case was settled for 1 million dollars.
